Star Nigro was born and raised in Woodstock, NY, “The Colony of the Arts” surrounded by art and artists. Star became interested in photography after exploring the mediums of drawing, sculpting, collage and painting from an early age at Kathy Anderson’s School for Young Artists and and at the The Woodstock School of Art.. This multi media background led her to the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley College, MA where she received a BFA in photography.
During and after her studies, she has traveled throughout Europe, and throughout the America’s including Brazil, Ecuador, Mexico and the USA with camera in hand recording the people and everyday life moments. While exhibiting in many different platforms such as solo and group gallery shows, juried museum exhibitions including the New York State Museum, Albany, NY, Revolving Museum, Boston,MA, hotels such as the Royal Sonesta Hotel in both Boston and Coco Beach, and boutiques including the Bronx Museum gift store and The Wolf Conservation Center in South Salem, NY
Several works by the artist have been to auction, including a recent piece presented at Bonhams San Francisco ‘Period Art & Design’ in 2013. Some of her photos and innovative photo works have also been included in private and corporate collections including the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Boston, MA, Obelisk Gallery, Boston, MA and TV/Magazine personality Rachael Ray.
Star has shared her appreciation for photography and art by teaching workshops. Teaching photography, alternative photo processes, and recycle workshops in various environments such as schools, after school programs, nursing homes and libraries throughout the Northeast. For the past five years has also been an artisans member of bronx Artworks through the Bronx Council of the Arts. She has exhibited her work through there Longwood Gallery part of Hostos Community College Bronx,NY and other community events.
She has also been a freelance photographer and invited to teach photography & alternative photo process workshops in schools, libraries and nursing homes throughout the Northeast and the Bronx Council of the Arts for the past six years.
Star resides currently in Hudson Valley, NY and is a fine art / freelance photographer.
